Quebec, Canada (2004-03-31)

Pics from vacation in Quebec!

Some facts about Quebec:

  • Everyone will speak to you in French first.
  • Way back when, they (the French, then British) built a wall around Quebec because they were afraid of an invasion!
  • It's the only city in North America with a wall around it.
  • It's freaking cold during March!

A Quebec gate at night.

Snow, snow, snow! Here's the other side of the gate. From left to right: Micah, Andre, Dad.

Micah and Andre pose for a pic in front of the gate during the day.

They had what seemed like hundreds of canons aimed towards the river. Paranoia, paranoia!
That building you see in the background is the old hotel.

Here's the river, with big slabs of ice floating down.

Unfortunately, the canons were not operational.

They even built several guard towers.

Look, I found some French-Canadian graffiti! Translation: "Disarm the USA."
Also note the anarchy sign beneath it. I saw a lot of those.

What, more anti-American sentiment?! How dare they!!
Well, if you're ever sick of living in the United States, you can always move to the great country of Canada.

My dad really loves waterfalls, so we went and checked out this one.
It's partly frozen over, which is pretty neat.

I know you all wanted to see a pic of me with my shirt off, but sorry, this is the best you're going to get! ;p

Icey stairs we had to climb up to get a better view.

Another pic of me freezing my butt off. Beautiful waterfall, though!
That snow hill near the bottom is actually all the frozen mist.

WHERE'S OUR ICE CREAM?!! WE WANT ICE CREAM!!!!

They actually built a hotel completely out of ice!
You can rent a room and sleep in warm sleeping bags on a bed of ice.
We didn't do it (too expensive).

Here's the church, with an ice angel in the back.
Couples get married here every year!

Ice chandelier.

My dad's knuckles turning white as we drive back to Montreal in a snow storm.
The only thing he could see was the car in front of him.
Canadian drivers are crazy... they would speed and pass us by--some don't even turn their lights on.

These are good weather conditions compared to above.

A building in old town Montreal I thought looked nice.
