Snow Day @ the UW (2004-01-06)

The street outside my studio

heh, this guy was snowboarding down the Ave (with a little help, of course ;). I would be afraid of a car skidding and hitting me from behind.

This bus looks a little stuck!

15th, from the foot bridge.

They made a little hill on the stairs to ski down.

Now this is where the party was! 45th St, right near the hill, outside of McCarty and Hansee. They closed off the street and lit up some flares. I don't know why the ambulance was there. And don't ask me about the guys dressed up as a shark and pig. ;p They got nailed by a lot of snowballs though, hehe

Huge crowd here; people everywhere!

People would stand on both sides of the streets and hurl snowballs at each other. Pretty amusing, as long as you didn't get hit!

Turn around and you're looking down that big hill on 45th! People were sledding down on anything they could find--trays from the cafeteria, road signs, snowboards, whatever!

I found this hilarious....
Four girls stacked up on some sign (the "road closed" one?) They actually went real fast, spinning around and screaming as they went down.

Some girls sledding down in a blue kiddie pool, hehe. And the other girls bringing their big sign back up.

Another shot of the hill. Man, I wanted to sled down but I wasn't feeling too well.

Now this was funny. This was right outside a frat house.
I wonder who came up with the idea of "let's drink beer and throw snowballs at cars!"
They would even push a couch out into the middle of the street to slow the cars down.
"The barricade," they called it.

Whenever a car came, people would scream "car, car, car!"
Then all would be quiet, until it turned onto their street, then bam bam bam!
Dozens of snowballs would be unleashed upon it, most aiming for the windows.
The drivers would be stunned, shaking their heads, some smiling, trying to get the heck outta there.

This was when I witnessed the full immaturity of fratboys...
Some middle-age lady was driving with her small son, wanting to go straight.
"You can't go that way; it is too icey!" they told her, Budweiser in one hand.
She rolled down her window, telling them she really needed to go straight.
"Go this way, go this way--turn, turn, turn!" they would scream and point.
Someone threw a snowball through the open window, hitting her.
Laughter and hooting followed.
She rolled up here window and drove through Ambush Street, her car getting pelted with snowballs.
Asses.

This looked fun...
Tied to the back of a pickup truck, sledding through the streets.

Wheeeeee...
